• "Writing for the Stage:  The Ten-Minute Play" an six-session online zoom workshop, is created and moderated by Arianna Rose, professional playwright/musical theatre writer, Dramatists Guild Institute Instructor & PIP Mentor, and DG South Florida Ambassador.  There are two different course days and times available:  Mondays 1 pm – 4 pm EST, April 7 – May 12, and Thursdays,  6:30 – 9:30 pm EST, April 3 - May 15 (no class May 1) . The tuition for the course is $299.00/early bird tuition by March 27; $329 tuition after March 27. $20.00 discount for current members of the South Florida Theatre League or The Dramatists Guild.  Minimum of 3 participants per section for the course to run.  Maximum 8 participants.

Course Description: Ten-minute play festivals continue to grow in popularity around the world, with readings, productions, and publications at every level of theatre. While short-form plays share some similarities with full-length storytelling, the dramatists who excel in this form have learned how to write into the differences. I can help you join their ranks.

This six-session course is a combination of lecture, reading, discussion, and most importantly, in-class sharing of your work for feedback.   Whether you’re a new or seasoned dramatist, Writing The Ten-Minute Play will assist you in your craft.  Topics include the elements of a successful 10-minute play, generating ideas, dramatic structure, character development, giving and receiving constructive feedback, effective rewrites, formatting your play, submissions, and log-keeping.

The  community we create in this course will serve you long after the final class. There is nothing more thrilling than watching an audience respond to something YOU wrote. I’d love to help you achieve that goal, and give you the tools to write to the highest level of craft.

  • “Arianna’s mastery of the 10-minute play form is undeniable, and her passion for the craft is contagious. I enjoyed reading work from the guest artists—it was both inspiring and instructive. The “writer’s group” portion of the class became a highlight for me; it created a supportive space to share work, give and receive feedback, and learn from one another. Arianna’s organization and commitment to equity in the Zoom room created a safe, thoughtful, energizing space that didn’t just help me write a play—it helped me grow as a writer.”

  • I’m delighted you’d like to register for Writing for the Stage:  The Ten-Minute Play.     Assisting dramatists with their work has become a true passion and vocation for me, and I’m excited to meet you all for our six-session online course.

    Meeting Times/Days

We’ll be meeting every  Monday or Thursday (depending which section you register for) from April to May 2025 (6 sessions total, 18 class hours) in our zoom room.  The zoom link will be sent to you upon payment; the google drive link where you’ll be uploading your writing, reading other plays and other files, will be accessible three days prior to the first day of class.

    Power Outages/Natural Disasters/Family Emergencies

Please note, I live in South Florida. There may be a situation during those six weeks where internet service is down or I have a personal family emergency.  If I must cancel a session, I will be in touch with everyone, and we’ll figure out an alternative date(s) for the class that is cancelled. If that’s not possible, I’ll work one-on-one or in small groups with participants to make up the time/course content.

    Refund Policy

Like any other course you would take, there is no refund for that day if you have to miss a class.  I will fully refund you any money pre-paid to me if you cancel prior to the first day of class. There are no refunds once the course has begun.

    Makeup classes:

I am offering two sections of the course, which will cover the same content each week.  If both classes receive enough enrollment to run, and you have to miss a Monday class but could take that SAME CLASS THAT WEEK in the Thursday section, or vice versa, you may do that; however, please note that the work sharing portion of the class would stay with your class; i.e. if you are in the Monday class, you can only share YOUR work on Mondays so that the Thursday participants have enough time to share their work, and vice versa.  If someone from that class is absent that day, you may present in their slot. Please contact me  if you need to switch into a different class for any particular week.

    Recording of class:

Because participants are sharing their own work in class, the writers’ group portion of the sessions are not recorded. If someone has to miss a class, I will record the first part of the class and share the link; it will stay available for 7 days.

Instructions for payment for the course:

Fee:   $299 early bird; $329 after.

Available Discounts: If you are a member of  The South Florida Theatre League, or The Dramatists Guild, there is a $20 discount for one or the other, so the tuition would then be $279 early bird/$309 after.

Payment is due by 48 hours prior to the first day of the course. Early registration is encouraged so that we all know if there are enough participants to run the course.  Your spot is only secured once payment is received.

You can pay a variety of ways (specific information to be sent to you via email):

    1.      Via venmo

    2.       Via Zelle

    3.      Via Paypal using the family/friends option so that there is no fee deducted

I will email you once I receive your payment and send you the zoom link.  A more detailed letter with reading material for the first session will be sent to you one week prior to the beginning of the course.

Pen to paper.  Fingers to keyboard. We travel inwards and peer into the bottomless well of ideas, hoping one will bubble to the top and inspire us.  Inspire others. Or perhaps you have too many ideas but lack the discipline to write them down. Perhaps you get stuck at the rewriting and crafting stage.

We write because we have to write.  Because that’s how we make sense of the world, our emotions, our thoughts, our mistakes, our joys.   You have a story to tell, in a unique way that only you can tell it.  Whether it’s memoir or fiction, a poem or play, a lyric or prose – I can assist you with creating, crafting, and communicating it to the world.

We’ll explore the different forms of creative writing through in-class prompts, writing and reading assignments between classes, and lecture.  You can be brand-new to writing, or a published author.  The value is in the group we create, the sharing and rewriting of our work, and creating connection and community in what is often a solitary endeavor.

Join me in this sacred space for scribes.  Let’s peer into the well together.

What Students, Educators, and Workshop Attendees Have to Say:

Arianna is a gifted teacher. She is graceful, open-hearted, highly intuitive, and easy to read. She is also not afraid to be in command- from such a loving and wise place that it truly supported us, it never got in the way. Her honesty was a beautiful example and set a natural tone for the class. Also, the “Lyrical Life” work was a tremendous gift; a superb example of trust and risk. Everyone benefited from this work. Thank you.
— - Student Quote from “Sounding the Well” workshop, Music for People weeklong "The Art of Improvisation"
- Arianna took a group of students who, for the most part, had never been on stage and made us all into performers. The very first class she set the tone and made us all feel as if anything we did was great. In the short period of time we were together, we not only bonded as a group, but her support and style of teaching allowed us to support one another that was so refreshing. We could do anything and nothing we did was wrong. I look forward to being in her class once again.
— John C., took an adult acting class with me at Actor’s Playhouse at Miracle Theatre and subsequently booked me for private coaching sessions for auditions
I’m writing to thank you for bringing your Healing Sounds presentation to the Women’s Project. It was a wonderful workshop – you are terrific at getting everyone up and involved! All the client evaluations were positive and everyone wanted you to return!
— Lauren Lesser, The Women’s Project, Beth Israel Medical Center, NY, NY
Your rain sticks class was tremendous and you were incredible with the children! I was amazed when I saw children that have been known never to sit, comfortably, actively, and productively involved in the artistic process. It was wonderful! The kids and families had a great time and your efforts made that possible. I hope you will consider working with our group again.
— Kim Hayden-Pless, The Autism Society of America of the Palm Beaches
I will really miss you when you’re gone. I learned to sing better because of you. We were just so, so, so excited you were here. I will really miss you!!!
— Alexandra Gallo, PS 75 NYC, Songwriting Residency
Our students were very enthusiastic about participating in the program; however, it is largely due to Ms. Rose’s wonderful spirit and infections enthusiasm that the children were so excited.
— Ms. T and Ms. D, PS 315 – The Performing Arts School, Brooklyn, NY, Songwriting Residency
Ms. Rose has delighted all staff and students with whom she worked. She has demonstrated preparedness, excellent classroom management, and an extremely high level of enthusiasm. Ms. Rose has earned an excellent reputation as a teaching artist. Moreover, she has earned the respect and admiration of the building administration, students and all faculty members, and has proven her ability to meld theory and practice and relate most effectively in a culturally diverse setting. I was particularly impressed with the collaboration among staff and students.
— Dr. Ronda Dawn Farkas, Principal, PS 152K School of Science and Technology, NY
It was spectacular! Rarely have I seen children so excited about learning, participating and willing to perform in front of hundreds of children as I did this semester with this program. This is due to the very hard work of Ms. Arianna Rose, your Teaching Artist, and my classroom teacher, Ms. Cecile Iboleon. The working relationship enjoyed by Ms. Rose and Ms. Cecile and children, clearly signaled to the students the seriousness of this opportunity, the high expectation of the program and the chance this afforded all students to grow. Ms. Rose was the consummate professional, always prepared, upbeat, positive and enthusiastic. Arianna brought out the best in the children and their teacher. She was a treasure
— Mr. Michael J. Deegan, Principal, Saint Jude School, NY NY
We were extremely pleased with all aspects of Ms. Rose’s residency in our school. She has a wonderful manner with the children. Her training, talent and effort produced a quality experience in the arts for our students. She worked very well with both the staff and children, always quite appropriate with both groups. While teaching, she maintained excellent control of the group along with effectively engaging the students. From the very start, the residency was set up with clearly stated goals, content, format and time frames. The overall content of the program was excellent. She is a talented professional who relates well to people, fulfilled her contract to the letter and provided an outstanding experience to our staff and students.
— Ms. Pat Schultz, Principal, G.C. Hartman Elementary Center, Catawissa, PA
As part of the Advisory team at Camp Romaca, Arianna had a difficult and very important job on her hands as department Head for our Performing Arts Workshop. She was always cheerful and dedicated to the program. She arrived in June completely prepared for the summer and more organized than almost every person on my staff. Arianna overhauled our performing arts program and made it more streamlined and enjoyable for everyone involved. Her new ideas were refreshing and her enthusiasm was contagious. Even with demanding deadlines and limited time to prepare shows, she was able to make our dramatic productions the best they’ve ever been. Her listening skills, as well as her communication skills, are exceptional. Besides being responsible and reliable, she was also flexible, creative and fun-loving. Her sincerity and genuine concern for others was apparent. I would be thrilled to have her return to my camp for many years to come.
— Jeannine Saltz, Owner/Director, Romaca Summer Camp for Girls.
