Pandemic Protocols - Please Read 〰️

ARIANNA ROSE PANDEMIC PROTOCOLS as of July 2023

I am a covid-careful instructor and follow the science.  I create a covid-safe (and other virus safe) lesson area by wearing an N95/P100 mask, and utilizing a portable Hepa filter machine (non-ozone) which will need to be plugged in.  When needed, I will wipe down equipment as well (such as if we use hand drums, etc., which are used by my other students too).

I always appreciate it when students mask as well.  Two -way masking is much more effective.

I am serious about safety.  Nothing is more important to me than all of us staying healthy, without anyone catching or passing on the Covid-19 virus, RSV, Monkeypox, flu, or any other contagious illness.  I teach on three different college campuses, in people’s private homes, and in workshop situations.   Being so much in the public requires common sense public health safety measures.   A combination of well-fitted N95 masks or higher, proper air filtration and ventilation, and vaccinations can significantly lower infections.

I believe that we cannot provide an equitable and just atmosphere for learning if we are not protecting one another by masking.  Refusing to mask indoors is an exercise of individual privilege that tells the most vulnerable that their health does not matter.  To practice community care, I will mask to protect those of us with compromised immune systems, those of us with family members unable to get vaccinated, those of us who do not want to transmit any virus to others, and those of us who want to avoid re/infection.

I come from a medical and scientific family, and I follow the science on these pandemics. I and other family members are vulnerable to the virus.  My protocols have kept me safe and Covid-free (to the best of my knowledge) for these past few years.

WHAT I DO TO ENSURE A SAFE TEACHING SITUATION:

 1.     Wear an N95 or higher mask at all times during lessons, when indoors, and in crowded situations outdoors.    I wear a flomask, which is quite comfortable, offers N95/P100 protection, and has a removable filter which I change out every 40 hours or more frequently depending on the situation.  It is quite easy to hear me through the mask.  I also have a voice amplifier I can use if needed.  Flomasks have children sizes as well:

2.      Wear a fresh pair of disposable gloves to lower the chance of giving or getting monkeypox or any other illness. These gloves will be immediately disposed of upon leaving the lesson.  I will apply hand sanitizer prior to wearing the gloves and wash my hands if a sink is available.

 3.     Show a copy of my vaccination card for Covid-19 if requested.  I have been 5x vaccinated for Covid-19.

 4.     Bring a HEPA filter machine into lessons.  I will need to be able to plug it in to an outlet.  I will bring an extension cord.  This machine covers a 850 square foot area.  I change the filters as recommended.

 5.     No touching of skin, such as repositioning a student’s hands for piano.  I will demonstrate with my own hands. I have a tiny 2-octave AKAI professional keyboard where I can demonstrate hand positions etc. without touching your keyboard or piano.

 6.     I will bring in Clorox wipes and a spray mist of hypochlorous acid which is absolutely safe for humans and pets.  If I am using your keyboard/piano (for voice lessons and audition prep), I will need to wipe it down first prior to use. I will dispose of the wipes.

 7.     If I am bringing my own keyboard (for voice students and audition prep – piano students must have their own keyboard or piano for between-lessons practice) I will have wiped it down prior to entering your home.  I will be the only person to touch or use the keyboard, stand and bench.  These safety protocols are in place for any other equipment or materials I bring to the lesson.

 8.     If I am feeling in any way ill or show any symptoms of any disease, or if I have been directly exposed and need to quarantine,  I will cancel the lesson and we will reschedule at a mutually convenient time when it is safe to resume.

 9.     I will observe social distancing whenever possible.

WHAT I REQUEST FROM MY STUDENTS TO ENSURE A SAFE TEACHING SITUATION:

 1.      CANCEL THE LESSON FOR STUDENT or FAMILY ILLNESS

IF YOU ARE FEELING ILL, for any medical reason, CANCEL THE LESSON.   IF YOU HAVE THE VIRUS or MONKEYPOX, the flu or any other communicable illness, or suspect you have any of these, CANCEL THE LESSON.  IF YOU START FEELING ILL DURING THE LESSON, WE WILL CANCEL IT. If someone you live with or work with has been infected, please let me know so we can reschedule till it’s safe to resume. Please do not return to lessons until you have tested negative for the virus/after ten days of quarantine for Covid-19.  Remember the hundred of students I come in contact with every week between my college classes, workshops and private lessons.   Let’s stop the spread and care about one another.

 2.     MASK-WEARING REQUEST:

For piano and audition prep students (non-singing):   I request that you wear a well-fitted mask. Two-way masking is the most effective for stopping the spread.  N95 preferred.  KN-95s are also suitable.   Surgical masks and cloth masks are not effective against these latest variants.   See above for links to purchase masks.  I will also have fresh masks on me.

For voice students – I recognize the challenge in singing with a mask on.  If you choose to sing mask-free, then we will have to arrange ourselves so your air is not coming right at me, but out, towards the hepa filters.

Note that if there is an outside area that is suited for lessons, and the piano/keyboard can be set up out there, although I will still mask up and wear gloves, it is not necessary that the student do so, assuming they are healthy.

 3.     Wash hands and use hand sanitizer prior to the lesson.
